Alexa Vega is an American born actress and singer who have lent her name to many famous movies like Sleepover, Odd Girl Out, Walkout and The Beautiful Ordinary. But her most memorable role till date remains as Carmen Cortez in the Spy Kids trilogy. She has been working in movies as child star. Vega, a Christian by religion loves fresh water fishing and can speak Spanish fluently. She is also an accomplished gymnast.
Vega was born as Alexa Ellesse Vega on August 27, 1988 in Miami, Florida; to a Colombian father and an American mother, Gina Rue (a model).She has two sisters, Makenzie Vega and Krizia Vega both of whom are actresses. Alexa also has two half-sisters named Margaux Vega and Greylin James as well as a half-brother named Jet James. When she was four years old, her family moved base to California. She now lives with her mother, step father Eric James and brothers and sisters.
Career in Movies
She made her debut in television and movies in 1993-94 since then she has worked in many shows like Evening Shade(1994),ER (1994), Chicago Hope (1995) and movies like Little Giants (1994), Nine Months (1994), It Was Him or Us(1995) and A Promise To Carolyn(1995).
In 1996, she played the character of young Helen Hunt in the super hit thriller Twister. She went on to appear in numerous other television series like Follow the Stars Home, and The Bernie Mac Show (2003). Vega’s international acclaim happened in 2001 when Spy Kids came her way. The movie proved to be a big success and she starred in two more movies of the Spy Kids series, Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams (2003) and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003) where she performed her own stunts.
The 2003 Vanity Fair issue named her as one of that that year's hottest teen celebrities. In 2004 she did two movies, Sleepover and State's Evidence, the former one bringing her much fame. Alexa followed it with a made-for-television drama entitled Odd Girl Out (2004). She also filmed for another made-for-TV movie, Walkout.
Next came The Beautiful Ordinary (2007) and Repo! the Genetic Opera (2007).this child woman is also supposed to star in Broken Hill scheduled to come out in 2009. Her new movie Helix was finished in March of this year i.e. 2008.
Alexa has also tried her hands at singing and recorded three songs for the Spy Kids soundtracks (Isle of Dreams, Game Over, and Heart Drive). She made her Broadway debut in the musical Hairspray in the role of Penny Pingleton, replacing Diana DeGarmo. She performed on Broadway until 5 August, 2007.
